Paraphrasing Said

Once again, knowledge of subject races or Orientals is what makes management easy or profitable; knowledge gives power, more power requires more knowledge, and so on in an increasingly profitable dialect of information and control.
  • Like before, knowing more about those who are being controlled makes controlling them easier and more profitable. Knowledge and power feed off of each other in an infinite cycle.
  • Knowledge begets power begets knowledge, and both make management easier and more profitable.
  • As we have already seen, easier and profitable management is caused by knowing the subject races and Orientals, as information and control are gathered by the use of the other.

Normal

Adjective. “Conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected.”

Thanks Google. I hate it.

Why have a normal day when you can have a routine one?

Why act normal when it means different things to different people?

“Everyone is special, Dash.” “Which is another way of saying noöne is.”

Wrong, Dash. The opposite of special isn’t normal, its ordinary—another stupid word.

But ordinary means normal! Well it shouldn’t. Ordinary should be closer to “basic” or “standard”.

What does using normal as an adjective mean?

First you have to define what the “normal” is, and then you find out that it isn’t as “normal” as you thought.

If someone figures out what that something can truly be considered normal, then they are lying or missing information.

Normal as a notion? *Laughs in 2020*

In conclusion I only recognize one definition of normal.

A line perpendicular to a plane.

I Am Proud to Present

a Press Review On We are Proud to Present

since I saw it on Monday, even though Thursday was opening night. And the name of the show isn’t the only handful that can be said about it. The show depicts a failure, that of the actors. As a whole, it explores the themes of racism and identity to find that racism is a lot bigger than you think.

There are two layers in the show: (no, I will no longer be referring to it by name at all)

Process
Presentation

Presentation is simple. The stage dims to show only the characters and what you want it to see.

Process, on the other hand, is when the stage is lit, uncaring for what the actors are doing.

The performers are different too. In Process, they for the most part are playing the actors; Actors 1 thru 6, correspond to

In Presentation the performers play the characters, or rather they play the actors playing the characters; White Man, Black Man, Another White Man, Another Black Man, Sarah, and Black Woman, resp.

Notice the lack of names. I feel that this allows you to step into their shoes relate better than if they had names and you could say “That’s not me, that’s Jeff!”

The show, while exploring racism and identity, tries to detail the Herero genocide.

This is where it fails.

If you haven’t seen it yet then 1) it’s no longer showing so 2) how dare you and 3) this is a “press review” and 4) spoilers. During the final scene, Actors 1/3/5 get too into it and unintentionally force Actor 2 from the project. Thus they cannot finish their show, and Actor 4 is left to end the show.

Aladdin

Iago is an Othello reference and anyone who says otherwise has never heard of Othello.

The Genie is a Time Traveler

  • Laddie
  • He wears a Goofy hat when he is leaving at the end
  • Slot machine while explaining 3 wishes
  • Applause sign after the end of “Friend Like Me”
  • He turns Abu into a car

I Can Show You the World but it will take longer than you think

In D&D a carpet of flying with dimensions of 4′ by 6′ has a flying speed of 60′ per 6 seconds. That translates to 600 feet per minute and 6 miles per hour at a normal pace, or 800 feet per minute and 8 miles per hour at a fast pace. In the movie, They travel from… Baghdad to Egypt, the Temple of Zeus in Greece, and then to the Forbidden Palace in China. That is

805 + 696 + 4730 = 6231

miles. It would take over a month to visit all of those places.

The reason why I chose Arabian Nights as my FYS is because it seemed interesting. Well, obviously. But I know the story in a different media than anyone else in the class.

Arabian Nights, the Magic the Gathering set from 1993. The first themed set of the game. While the person in charge of the game, who is thankfully no longer in charge of it, was not the best person in the world, this was very much inspired by Arabian Nights. He did make use of multiple different sources, as seen by flavor text (italics) at the bottom of a few cards.

In the Wake of the Great Allentown Fair

Have you ever stopped to listen to nature?

In the ten minutes it took for me to walk from the fair back to the dorm,

I listened.

I heard the absence of sound.

I realized that the fair was loud,

with music playing from a variety of booths.

The announcer spoke from outside the big fair building;

voice amplified by his mic:

We thank today’s sponsor Service Electric for sponsoring today’s video providing us with the giant TV screens for us to watch college football.

Yeah, the fair was a fair, but it wasn’t for me. I had decided against food before going—though some of it seemed interesting—and when I got there I avoided the rides and animals. I lapped the fair once, looking at the games like “Which hole is the mouse going to go into?” or “Toss the balls until you get BINGO” before heading inside the fair building. Inside I briefly glanced at the cooking show before continuing my solo walking tour to an author. I bought a signed copy of each of Frank Stangle’s books and had a wonderful conversation with him and another gentleman there who also supported him.

But as I walk back, I think…

I thought about the sounds,

how much quieter it was that there was no music.

About how I could tell as soon as I stepped on the side-street pavement that it was more recently paved than West Chew St.

About the sounds I’d here when I’d return to my room;

The buzz of the microwave/fridge.

The annoying high tone pitch of my watch charger when it draws power.

The beeping of the dehumidifier in the hall as it warns about a full tank.

I listened to nature on that walk back.

And I heard my inner peace.

Me? A Writer?

Not yet.

When I write, I write for me. I have a collection of prompts and a collection of thoughts, and writing, however hard it is, is how to share it with others. Most of the time I see the prompt and go “that is the story I want to write about” and never do. For me, writing is a goal; the end of a motive to get words on a page cohesively and coherently. This piece was easier for me since I have already written it multiple times; some better than others–all through trial and error.
